There will be a drop in Death Cafe on the above dates in Bury St Edmunds. All are invited to come for all or part of the evening. (If you definitely plan to come and could let us know it would be a big help – we can make sure we have enough cake!)
What is the Death Café?
At Death Cafes people come together in a relaxed and safe setting to discuss life and death, drink tea and eat delicious cake. The objective of Death Cafe is “To increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives.”
Death Cafes are always offered:
On a not for profit basis though, to be sustainable, we try to cover expenses through donations and fundraising
With no intention of leading participants towards any particular conclusion, product or course of action
Alongside refreshing drinks, nourishing food – and cake!
Why life, death and doughnuts?
Death is still a taboo subject. One of the reasons for that is the imagery often associated with it. The Death Cafe has not taken a view, but Nigel George believes we need to get away from what is a medieval image and look for something more positive. When you die do you want to be met by the Grim Reaper or Stephanie? A skeleton with a scythe or a pretty girl with a cup of coffee and a plate of doughnuts?
