Extra time

Did you hear Wilko Johnson’s interview on BBC Radio 4′s Front Row last night?

Wilko is a musician and former guitarist with the band Dr Feelgood. He’s been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and given 10 months to live. He can stretch this to 12 apparently with the aid of chemotherapy.

Wilko has decided to go on a truly final world tour. You’ve decided to out with a bang said the interviewer. “I’ve never had such a feeling of elation” said Wilko “All my senses have gone into overdrive.” He then said what for me, was his most telling comment; “It takes imminent death to knock sense into your head.”

While he acknowledged the sadness of saying final goodbyes,Wilko is a man who clearly wants to get the most out of ‘playing extra time.’
